ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Drawbacks & Benefits is the debut CD from the bulgarian based instrumental metal trio Mindfold Express. It features low tuned syncopated riffing and complex drum patterns, a formula used by bands as Meshuggah, Textures, Periphery, layered with guitar solos, ambient soundscapes and trip hop flashes. The CD features a guest appearance by Tymon Kruidenier, guitarist for Cynic and Exivious and a saxophone solo by Danail Nenkov.
This album is for an open minded listener looking for a modern metal music with doors open to other musical genres.
Mindfold Express is one of those bands that has the uncanny ability of blending multiple styles to create a hybrid sound that is all their own. Their debut offering “Drawbacks & Benefits” is influenced by bands in same genre as 'Meshuggah’ and 'Textures’, but no matter where they take their inspiration from one thing is sure, Mindfold Express are an amazing band that have proven now that they can write solid material.
Honestly, it’s really hard to classify “Drawbacks & Benefits”, which is a rich tapestry of a variety of genres blended into one cohesive sound. One could try to classify it as Math Metal, since most of the compositions incorporate odd time signatures, but at the same time there are moments of atmospheric breakdowns, pop metal passages, progressive rock sentiments, and even 'Animals as Leaders’ alike moments.
“Drawbacks & Benefits” is both a rocker and a thinking man's album, in that there are enough metal moments to satisfy the hardest of head banging fans, but also enough deep and intricate moments to satisfy the music geek as well.
